THE PRÍNCPE FOUNDATION IS LOOKING FOR A MANAGER FOR THE Protetuga PROJECT.

The Príncipe Foundation (PF) promotes sustainable development and biodiversity conservation through projects that support local communities and empower teams. PF's projects focus on establishing and strengthening protected areas (marine and terrestrial), increasing knowledge about the island's unique fauna and flora, promoting community livelihoods, ecotourism and environmental sustainability.

The engagement of communities is crucial to the success of our projects and they must make the most of protecting the island's biodiversity. We believe that conservation has to be done with and for the people.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Marine Project Manager to work closely with the Foundation's various conservation programmes and teams.

This position will contribute to the development and implementation of conservation and protection strategies for turtles on Príncipe Island through the Foundation's flagship programme, ProTetuga, guaranteeing the preservation of their populations, as well as compliance with related legislation and guidelines. The main responsibilities of this position will be the management, capacity building and training of local teams.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Ideally, we are looking for candidates with experience in marine biodiversity conservation linked to sustainable livelihoods, with preference given to applications with experience in sea turtle conservation, good project management and fundraising skills and proven experience in community engagement, participatory approaches and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working on conservation issues;

  • Relevant academic degree in conservation or related field;

  • Experience in experimental design, data collection and management, including the creation and management of databases;

  • Proven experience in project development and fundraising;

  • Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and English;

  • Proven ability in financial/budget management of projects and proposal development.
