Workshop on MPA Surveillance and Patrol

During the week of 17 to 21 of February this year, the project ‘Establishing a Network of Marine Protected Areas in São Tomé and Príncipe through a Co-management Approach’, Omalividanón, held a workshop on monitoring and patrolling MPAs, in partnership with WildAid Marine.

The workshop lasted five days, with theoretical and practical sessions, and was attended by the following regional government authorities: the Fisheries Department, the National Police, the Environment Directorate, the Port Authority and the Coast Guard.

This training also served to draw up an action plan for the coming months focussed on the inspection and patrolling of the MPAs, aimed at strengthening the knowledge of the authorities involved.
