Fundação Príncipe is looking for a Marine Program Manager to support the development and management of the Marine Conservation Program.

Fundação Príncipe (FP) promotes sustainable development and biodiversity conservation through projects that strongly focus on supporting the local community and building local capacity. FP's projects focus on establishing and strengthening protected areas (marine and terrestrial), researching the unique fauna and flora of the island, promoting community livelihood, ecotourism and environmental sustainability.

Engaging communities is essential to the success of our projects and ensuring that they are the ones getting the most out of protecting the island's biodiversity. We believe that conservation has to be done with and for the people.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Marine Program Manager to support the development and management of a program focused on the conservation of marine habitats and species and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods - with an emphasis on the development and implementation of the Marine Conservation Program and carrying out conservation projects with sea turtles.

This position will contribute to island-wide conservation activities, including the conservation of marine biodiversity, effective management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and community co-management of MPAs, while liaising between FP and the regional and national government. It will also support the capacity building of local groups and deliver other aspects of the FP's operations, such as project management, team management and fundraising.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS

Ideally, we are looking for candidates with experience in marine biodiversity conservation linked to sustainable livelihoods, good project management and fundraising skills and proven experience in community engagement, participatory approaches and sustainable livelihood initiatives.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working on conservation issues;

  • Relevant degree in conservation or related field;

  • Experience in experimental data design, collection and management, including database creation and management;

  • Proven track record in project development and fundraising;

  • Fluency in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken;

  • Proven financial/budget management and proposal development skills.
